How to Create a Strong Password
The first rule is length; the second is uniqueness. Avoid birthdays, word-plus-year patterns and reuse; store passwords in a manager and enable 2FA on important accounts.
Length first
A 16- to 20-character random password is harder to crack than an 8-character complex one.
A passphrase of four to six random words can also be long, but watch dictionary attacks.
Uniqueness and 2FA
Use a different password per site so one breach does not unlock others.
A password manager remembers one strong master password; add an authenticator or hardware key for important accounts.
FAQ
Passphrase or random password?
Both can work; length and randomness matter, and random passwords resist dictionary attacks better.
Are password managers safe?
Major products encrypt the vault; the main risks are the master password and device security.
